What is Energy Healing?
“Life is a mixed bag, filled with blessings to be grateful for, difficulties to overcome, opportunities to explore, decisions to make, and grief and longing at times. All of these things give us experience. They provide ways for us to exercise faith, gain knowledge, and develop our capacity to love”
This quote by Dr Bradley Nelson reminds us that life is a rich tapestry woven with joy, challenge, and longing. Each thread, whether bright or dark, offers wisdom and opportunity.
Through energy healing, we learn to view these experiences not as burdens but as invitations. They encourage us to release what no longer serves us, to align with our inner wisdom, and expand our capacity to love.
Even in moments of grief or longing, energy healing provides a sanctuary, a space to breathe, recalibrate, and rediscover the strength within. Healing is not about avoiding life's challenges; it is about aligning with our inner wisdom so that every experience becomes part of our spiritual journey.

What is Energy Healing?
Energy Healing refers to various holistic practices that focus on the energy within an organism to promote balance and well-being.
The primary goal of energy healing is to realign the natural flow of energy throughout the body, enabling the natural healing process. It is believed that when all chakras (energy centers) are aligned and open, the body can heal itself more effectively.
Energy healing involves using energy to promote physical, mental and emotional balance, allowing individuals to access their inner strength and higher self.
This approach is based on the belief that the human body is composed not only of physical matter but also of an intricate network of energy fields and pathways. When these energy fields are balanced and flowing freely, the body exists in a state of health and harmony. In contrast, disruptions or blockages in the energy flow can lead to physical, emotional, and spiritual imbalances.
How Reliable is Energy Healing?
Muscle testing has been studied in scientific literature for decades. A landmark article published in 1984 in Perceptual and Motor Skills was the first laboratory study to support its potential value (1). The investigator observed: “To my surprise, I found that in double‑blind tests, people were slightly weaker when holding an unmarked bottle of sugar than when holding an unmarked bottle of sand of the same weight.”
Since then, more than 100 studies, including randomised controlled trials, have investigated the method, with a 2007 review suggesting scientific support for its use (2).
Physiological mechanisms have also been explored. Electromyographic research has examined how fatigue and task repetition affect the validity of strong versus weak muscle assessments (3), while neurological studies have shown changes in somatosensory evoked potentials during muscle testing (4).
Technological advances have added further credibility. Devices such as force transducers have demonstrated measurable correlations between muscle resistance and practitioner assessments (5). In well‑controlled studies, muscle firmness has shown significant changes depending on whether a person is speaking the truth or a lie, with results achieving high levels of statistical confidence (6).

Benefits of Energy Healing
Energy healing is a simple yet powerful tool that anyone can use. Whether practised by a professional or explored at home, it provides gentle methods to support health, happiness, and resilience. Through energy healing, many people find that they can lead calmer, more balanced, and more connected lives.
Energy healing offers a variety of potential benefits, including:
Stress Reduction: Energy healing promotes deep relaxation, helping to ease tension and reduce the effects of stress on both the body and mind.
Pain Relief: By improving energy flow and reducing blockages, energy healing can alleviate various types of pain, including both chronic and acute pain.
Enhanced Well-being: Many individuals experience greater emotional balance and mental clarity following sessions.
Improved Immune Function: Some studies suggest that energy healing may support the immune system, enabling the body to defend itself more effectively.
Better Sleep Quality: Energy healing techniques often induce deep relaxation, which is essential for quality sleep. By balancing the body's energy and reducing mental stress, energy healing can help individuals fall asleep more easily and enjoy more restful, uninterrupted sleep, leading to improved overall health, mood, and cognitive function.
Personal Growth: Energy healing can facilitate spiritual growth and self-awareness, allowing individuals to connect more deeply with themselves and their surroundings.
Practical Benefits and Accessibility:
- Completely non‑invasive, gentle, and pain‑free
- Can be practised in person or from a distance (Distance Healing by Proxy)
- Safe to use alongside other treatments, with no risk of drug interactions
- Accessible for self‑practice and use with loved ones at home
- Enhances emotional resilience, alleviating anxiety and sadness
- Encourages calmer, more empathetic relationships
Are There Negative Impacts of Energy Healing?
Energy healing is generally considered a safe and non-invasive practice. However, like any holistic approach, it can lead to certain experiences that are important to understand.
Possible Effects:
Emotional Release: Sessions may bring up feelings, memories, or emotions that need to be processed.
Physical Sensations: Some individuals may experience tingling, warmth, lightheadedness, or fatigue during or after a session.
Adjustment Period: As energy shifts, individuals may feel slightly unsettled or tired before achieving balance again.
Expectations vs Reality: Energy healing is not a quick fix. Results can vary, and it works best when approached with openness and patience.
Healing Crisis: Occasionally, releasing energy blockages can trigger what’s known as a healing crisis. This is a temporary period of physical or emotional discomfort as the body adjusts to the new energy flow. It is considered a positive sign of release rather than a negative effect. Important Considerations:
- Energy healing should be viewed as a complementary practice, not a replacement for conventional medical treatment.
- It is most effective when integrated alongside professional treatments, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care practices.
- If difficult emotions or physical discomfort persist, it’s important to seek guidance from a qualified health professional.
Energy Healing Frequently Asked Questions
What types of issues can energy healing support?
Energy healing can support a wide range of emotional, mental, and energetic imbalances. Clients often seek sessions for stress, overwhelm, burnout, relationship patterns, confidence, decision‑making, creative blocks, and general emotional heaviness. It does not diagnose or treat medical conditions, but it can help the body and mind return to a more balanced state, making challenges easier to navigate.
Do I need to believe in energy healing for it to work?
No. Energy healing does not rely on belief or expectation. Many clients begin with curiosity rather than certainty. The work interacts with the subconscious mind and energy field, which operate independently of conscious belief. A relaxed, open attitude simply helps you notice the shifts more easily.
Will energy healing interfere with my current therapy or medical treatment?
No. Energy healing is complementary and non‑invasive. It does not replace medical or psychological care, but it can support your overall well-being by helping the body regulate stress, release emotional tension, and integrate insights from other forms of treatment.
Can I combine energy healing with other holistic practices?
Yes. Energy healing blends well with meditation, breathwork, yoga, somatic practices, journaling, and grounding techniques. Many clients find that energy healing enhances the effectiveness of their existing wellbeing routines.
Can energy healing help if I feel “stuck” but don’t know why?
Yes. You do not need to know the root cause of your discomfort. The subconscious mind holds far more information than the conscious mind, and energy healing allows us to access and release imbalances even when we cannot articulate what feels wrong. Many clients come with a sense of heaviness, stagnation, or confusion, and find clarity emerging naturally after sessions.
Can energy healing support my personal development or self‑awareness journey?
Yes. Energy healing can help you recognise patterns, shift limiting beliefs, and reconnect with your inner guidance. Many clients use it as part of a wider personal growth journey, alongside journaling, coaching, therapy, or mindfulness practices.
Can energy healing help with long‑standing patterns or generational trauma?
Energy healing can support the release of inherited emotional patterns, subconscious beliefs, and energetic imprints passed down through families. While it does not replace therapeutic work, it can help soften the emotional charge around generational themes and create space for new ways of relating and responding.
Can energy healing help with decision‑making or clarity?
Yes. When emotional clutter or subconscious stress is released, the mind becomes clearer and more spacious. Clients often report improved intuition, easier decision‑making, and a stronger sense of direction after sessions.
Can energy healing help with relationship patterns?
Yes. Energy healing can help release emotional triggers, inherited patterns, and subconscious beliefs that influence how you relate to others. Many clients notice improvements in communication, boundaries, and emotional resilience within their relationships.
